November Wrap Up and December Save the Date

Maybe it was the election or early distractions caused by turkey-eating daydreams, but we failed to post our results from the November Happy Hour.  We are pleased to have raised $300 for ACHIEVEability and their many programs.  A big Thank You to Nodding Head for providing yummy quesadillas and perogies, in addition to their great beer selection!

Moving on to December, we need everyone to mark their calendars for the Tuesday, December 4th Happy Hour at The Happy Rooster benefiting The Gift of Life Donor House.  The Happy Rooster has welcomed a new chef and is looking forward to sharing some of the new menu with us, as well as the usual free drink.  Your $10 donation will go directly to The Gift of Life Donor House.  We hope to see you there, spreading some holiday cheer!  Event runs from 5:30-8pm.

November Event - Nodding Head Brewery with ACHIEVEability

We are happy to have so much to celebrate this coming Tuesday (Nov. 6th).  Not only did we all make it through a week that started with one heck of a storm (Sandy, we're looking at you!), but we'll also be celebrating the fact that the end of political ad season will only be a handful of hours away (starting a slow clap now!) We can't wait to end this love/hate relationship we have with our TVs at the moment.

And of course the main reason to come out and Drink Up, Give Back with us on Tuesday is that we'll be supporting ACHIEVEability, a local organization committed to ending the cycle of poverty.  Nodding Head Brewery is generously donating one free drink and some free appetizers to everyone who donates $10 at the door.  Festivities will kick off at 5:30pm so be sure to hit the polls in the morning so you have no excuse not to join us.

No matter how much you think your vote will matter, we know your donation will go a long way.  Take a look at what your dollars will do for ACHIEVEability:
$500 will help for pay a family’s rent for one month.
$250 will help purchase textbooks for a semester.
$100 will help a family of three buy groceries for one month.
$50 will help purchase school supplies.
$25 will provide a week of public transportation for a participant to reach

So...get your tails (and hanging chads) to Nodding Head and down a beer or several for a good cause.

October was Outstanding!

One week ago we gathered at Finn McCools to drink, eat and raise money!  Of course you did not disappoint.  We raised $450 for Urban Blazers which will allow them to take 90 students hiking!  High fives all around for a great event.

We look forward to seeing everyone on November 6th (Election Night!) when we "Drink Up, Give Back" to ACHIEVEability.  No matter which candidate you support, you know your attendance will help support the work of an awesome community agency which helps families break the generational cycle of poverty!

October Event - Finn McCools with Urban Blazers

In October, we want you to "Get out!" Get out of your office, get out of your house, and get outside! We think this month's beneficiaries, Urban Blazers, would soundly endorse that last one as their mission is to get Philadelphia's youth outdoors and enjoying nature.

No matter if you're the outdoorsy type or the out on the town type, the most important thing is that you get out and have some fun with us. Join us at Finn McCools on Tuesday, Oct. 2nd, where $10 will get you your first drink for free and an hour of free appetizers. 100% of the proceeds will go to Urban Blazers and 100% of the fun will go to you!  See you from 5:30-8pm.

Nothing "ruff" about September's event!

What up dawgs?! (and dog-lovers!)  We are excited that so many people were able to make it out to Smith's and help us raise money for The Monster Milers.  Thanks to your serious drinking skills, we were able to raise $710 for this awesome group of dog-lovin' runners.

It was great to connect with some many new friends via SCP and the Monster Milers and we hope to see you all again very soon....like next month (wink, wink).

In October we will "Drink Up, Give Back" to Urban Blazers. Be sure to mark those calendars for Oct. 2nd right now!

September Event - Smith's with The Monster Milers

This month we're looking at everyone with our puppy dog eyes. How can you say no to that?! Join us in September as we support the little monsters in your life and the city's shelters. Monster Milers pairs shelter dogs and runners together to provide exercise, interaction, and a hopeful forever home to our furry friends. Smith's bar is generously providing the usual  (1) free drink and some free appetizers to everyone who comes out to the event. Admission is $10 (or "bones" if you're using dog-speak).

The Monster Milers will be using funds from this event to procure their city permit for their upcoming 5K run for dog shelters (slated for 2013)!

Bring yourself, bring a friend but please don't bring any real monsters (they're scary!) We can't wait to see you there (if we had tails. they'd be wagging).

We had a "Grand" time!

Wahoo! and Thank you to all who made it out to Socially Conscious Philadelphia's happy hour last week.  If you haven't seen on Facebook, then you might be excited to know we raised a cool grand ($1000) for The Sturge-Weber Foundation on Wednesday.  And all you had to do was show up and have a good time!  Thanks also to American Pub not only for the food and drink but one final donation to get to that lovely fourth digit.

For those keeping track, that means SCP has now officially surpassed the $10K mark in funds raised since we started about 18 months back!  We are, as the celebrities like to say these days, over the moon!  As always, we look forward to more fun social outings with our growing crowd of supporters.

Speaking of when we'll see you again, be sure to mark your calenders for Tuesday, September 4th (one day after Labor Day).  We'll share more details as the dates draws near.

August Event - American Pub with Sturge-Weber Foundation

Be sure to come on down (and we really mean it since our location is underground this month) to American Pub for our August Happy Hour!  We'll be gathering on Tuesday, August 7th at 5:30pm.  Per usual, your $10 donation will get you a free drink and select appetizers courtesy of American Pub.  All proceeds will benefit the Sturge-Weber Foundation as they support families and individuals diagnosed with Sturge-Weber syndrome.  Unlike some of our prior non-profits, you might not be as familiar with Sturge-Weber and their work.  Make sure to peruse their website to learn more:  http://www.sturge-weber.org/about-swf/mission-a-vision.html.  And if you simply have zero time to waste on the interweb, then, at the very least, be sure to make your way over to help us have a fun time!

Oh Baby! You came through in July!

We are incredibly excited to announce we were able to raise $725 at Tuesday's Happy Hour benefiting Maternity Care Coalition!  This money will help expectant mom's (and families) get the care and education they need to raise healthy, happy families.  Thanks so much for making us a part of your pre-holiday festivities.  Thank you also to Ladder 15 for being such awesome hosts and to the Philadelphia chapter of the Penn Alumni Association for getting so many great people out to the event.

We look forward to seeing everyone at August's happy hour (details TBA).

July Event - Ladder 15 with Maternity Care Coalition

This July, as you salute Lady Liberty, remember that she really is the Mother of it all (as far as Freedom and all that jazz goes). And in her honor, we'll be raising a glass to benefit the Maternity Care Coalition! You can help ensure the health of mothers and children in Philadelphia, while potentially being a danger to your own (we kid...drink responsibly people)!

Lucky for us, this month's happy hour is on July 3rd. As many offices will let you get a jump start on the holiday weekend with an early dismissal it's basically your duty to get a jump start on the celebrating and Pre-Game for Independence with us!

A $10 donation is required for the usual free drink and light appetizers courtesy of Ladder 15. The fun will run from 5:30-7pm.  So raise a glass to moms, children and the good old U S of A with us on Tuesday!

You Showed Your Pride in June!

We hope your Monday has been a gentle one!  Just a quick SCP note to thank all of you who made it out last week for our most recent happy hour, benefiting The Attic Youth Center.  Your fabulous support raised a wonderful $530 that will go toward supporting programs for Philadelphia's LGBTQ youth!  Thanks also to Woody's and our awesome hosts: Ty Furman and Steve McCann!

Next month's Happy Hour will be on Tuesday, July 3rd!  We realize that many of you will be traveling for the holiday. BUT, for those of you in town that weekend, thank your lucky stars that you won't have to go to work the next morning!  So...mark us as a firm commitment in those calendars...NOW!  We'll have more details for you later this month.

A Strong Finish with Back on My Feet

Wow...we still can't believe what an awesome event we held this past Tuesday!  For realz...you all made us so happy with your generous support of Back on My Feet (BoMF).  Because of you, we reached a new SCP PR (trying to use some running terms here) and raised $1250 for BoMF!!!  It looks like Year Two for SCP is going to be a strong one.

We have a lot of Thank You's to dish out this month:

1.  Elephant and Castle - Not only did they provide a great drink selection and good food for free, they also added a $50 gift card to our raffle!  Did someone say "new favorite bar"?

2.  BoMF - Thanks for keeping the entrance moving, the raffle going and the people streaming in!

3.  Lehigh Young Alumni Association - You were our first alumni hosts and you can be sure we'd do it all again (much like college).

4.  Maureen Bole - Another awesome host for the night who made sure her friends had SCP on their calendars! (more information about hosting can be found at www.scphila.blogspot.comhttp://scphila.blogspot.com/2011/05/get-involved.html)

Everyone will want to mark their calendars for our June Happy Hour on Tuesday, June 5th as we "Drink Up, Give Back" to the Attic Youth Center.

May Event - Elephant and Castle with Back on My Feet

May's Happy Hour will be Tuesday, May 1st from 5:30-8pm at Elephant and Castle (1800 Market).  You'll want to run, not walk, to this one as our boozin' will benefit Back on My Feet (BoMF), which helps the homeless in Philadelphia through running programs.  So, all you avid runners, take a break with a beverage and for all you non-runners...enjoy creating your own "runner's high" (via the drinks or the feeling you get from doing some good), as we all "Drink Up, Give Back"!

Per usual, Elephant and Castle will be offering one free drink and some free appetizers to SCPers (and BoMFers) who donate $10 at the door.  Remember that 100% of proceeds go to BoMF!

Additionally, BoMF will be selling their first ever race day shirts at the event.  If you are running Broad Street, consider making a purchase.  We'll also have a pair of Phillies tickets to raffle off for their Tuesday, June 5th game vs. the LA Dodgers.

One Year Later...

Just over a year ago, over some beers (surprise!), Socially Conscious Philadelphia was created.  April marks the one year anniversary of our first official event and we are so very excited!  In that one year we've met amazing people, worked with phenomenal local businesses and had a small hand helping to fulfill the missions of a dozen locally-based charities.  We've loved being a part of this effort and look forward to many more years where we can "Drink Up, Give Back" together!

Here's a list of the businesses and charities that have made our inaugural year a success!

2011 in Review
We look forward to celebrating this milestone where it all began, at Misconduct, tonight from 5:30-8pm.  All proceeds will benefit Urban Tree Connection!

April Event - Misconduct Tavern with Urban Tree Connection

We've been looking forward to April's Happy Hour for a few months now (yes, that's how bad some of us need a drink!)  But beyond the promise of alcohol one of our favorite things about April is that it is our One Year Anniversary!  In a year that saw the demise of one Kardashian marriage it's nice to know that some things really do last.  Unlike Kim and Kris we promise to make the most of your gifts.  Feel free to shower us with as much "paper" as you want (that is the traditional one year gift) or merely the $10 we suggest at the door.

The fine folks at Misconduct Tavern will be hosting us once again (they were kind enough to be our first venue ever) and you can be sure the food at this one will be extra yummy.  Of course, you'll also get one free drink.  All of this eating and drinking will benefit Urban Tree Connection, who is committed to providing community-based greening efforts in some of Philadelphia's disadvantaged neighborhoods (uber appropriate as we head into Spring and Summer!)

Be sure to invite your friends because we want our one year anniversary party to rival the best of them!
Consider this your "Save the Date" and RSVP by showing up!

When: Tuesday, April 3rd, 5:30-8pm.
Where: Misconduct Tavern (1511 Locust)
Who: This one benefits Urban Tree Connection
How Much: $10
Why: Because you love trees, SCP, free food, free drinks and/or one year anniversaries

We were "write" on with Tree House Books!

We are very excited to report we raised $700 for Tree House Books at Tuesday's Happy Hour!  We we're hoping this would be a big one as we barrel into our one year anniversary and you did not disappoint.  Whether you were simply priming your liver for St. Patty's Day festivities (or maybe a spin on the Erin Express) OR have a love for Tree House Books, you contributed to a fantastic tally.  Of course, we also need to thank the awesome folks at 879 Lounge, and wish a belated Happy Birthday to bartender Bridget, for the support as well.  Finally, thanks to one of our SCP members who stepped up as a host for March, Alyssa D'Alconzo!  It was awesome to meet so many new friends and we look forward to seeing many of you at future events!

Speaking of future events...April is squarely on our radars.  Because, if you haven't gotten tired of us saying it yet...it's our ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY!  And while we'd love to be all humble and say "no gifts please", we realize very serendipitously that paper is the traditional one year gift.  And unless you are someone who has a love of coin collecting, we're guessing you'll be using some "paper" to pay your way into the next event.  So...please...shower us with gifts and join us on April 3rd as we "Drink Up, Give Back!"  More details to follow.

March Event - 879 Lounge with Tree House Books

St. Patty's Day isn't the only reason to get out your green this March!  You won't want to miss our March Happy Hour at 879 Lounge (owned by two Philadelphia Eagles).  That's right, put on your Eagles green and get ready to spend a lil' green as we "Drink Up, Give Back" for Tree House Books (heck, even trees are green!)

The awesome folks at 879 Lounge are providing some solid hot appetizers as well as one free drink.  All it will cost you is $10...all if which will go to Tree House Books as they help to instill a love of reading in children in our area.  So, don't just read about this one...join us!  See you on Tuesday, March 6th from 5:30-8pm.

We are $295 away from raising $6000 this year.  We'd love to meet that goal as we head into our one year anniversary this April!

Showing some love for United Community Clinics

A heart-filled thanks goes out to all the folks who made it to our February Happy Hour!  Our drinking efforts resulted in $310 raised for United Community Clinics.  The clinic is run entirely on volunteer efforts, so this money will do a lot to enhance the budget of this program!  Thanks also to Public House for giving us the space (and the drinks...and the food) for the evening.  In total, SCP has now raised $5705.  While we sure love to drink, we're certain we couldn't have done this on our own (and remained functioning members of society)!  For that you are all honorary SCP Valentines...swoon.

The next two months will be big ones for SCP so get out those calendars!

On March 6th, we'll be at 879 Lounge (Old City) and will have a Philadelphia Eagle or two in the house!  Our imbibing will support Tree House Books (even if you yourself can't read much by the end of the night).

April 3rd will be our ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY (say what?!) and we're hoping to make it a big shebang (No, Ricky Martin won't be there)!  But, we'll see you there to celebrate what has certainly been an awesome year.

February Event - Public House with United Community Clinics

Whether you're in love, out of love, lookin' for love or believe love is merely a social construct forced upon us....we want to see you at our February Happy Hour!  While romance is not necessarily on the agenda, we will be spreading our collective love for our fellow Philadelphians by drinking to support United Community Clinics, committed to providing health care for anyone in need.  The nice people at Public House will be hosting this shindig and providing the standard free drink and light appetizers.  As usual, $10 is what you need to enter.

Since Public House is a large space, we're hoping for a large turnout!  So, invite that special someone you secretly hope to run into at Starbucks every day, the cute guy or gal in the cubicle next to you, or simply a friend who needs a pick me up and an "I'll show my Ex I have a full social life" moment and come "Drink Up, Give Back" with us this coming Tuesday, February 7th from 5:30-8pm

Absolutely In Love With All Of You,
The (head over heels) SCP Team

P.S. - Save the Date for March 6th when we'll be venturing to Old City to uber hip night spot 879 Lounge (owned by Eagles Brent Celek and Todd Herremans) to support Tree House Books.  Word on the street is that there may even be an Eagle or two in the SCP crowd!

You gave back in January...now for some feedback!

First things first, thanks to everyone who came out on January 3rd to support the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society at Time.  We had a great time continuing to ring in 2012 with all of you and raised a healthy $320 while doing it!  We're also so much more refined now that we spent the evening listening to some jazz ;)

Second, in an effort to improve ourselves (because that's what we all do at the start of a new year) we've put together a simple 10 question survey that we'd be oh-so tickled for you to take a peek at.  We promise it is quick and will provide us with tons of useful information to keep growing SCP and maximizing our drinking efforts.  We're staring down the barrel of our one year anniversary and want to ensure we are on track to do awesome things in the coming months.

The survey lives here:  http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/FX2DGM8

Finally, mark your calendars for Tuesday, February 7th when we "Drink Up, Give Back" to United Community Clinics at Public House!
