January Event - Time with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Soceity

Save the Date for our Tuesday, January 3rd Happy Hour benefiting the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society at Time.  With all the hustle and bustle of the holidays we know your social calendars will be jam packed.  Consider jamming one more event in there to start 2012 off on a giving note!  You'll get bonus points toward that "do gooding" resolution (and we'll all turn a blind eye to that "going to the gym" resolution for one more day).  Plus, we'll collectively "oooo" and "ahhhh" over the new duds you'll surely be sporting courtesy of Santa, awesome holiday sales or those eight crazy nights of gifts.

As usual $10 will get you a free drink courtesy of Time and some light fare courtesy of us here at SCP.  All proceeds will benefit the Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.  Let's be honest, this will probably be the most purposeful drink you'll have had in weeks!  The hooplah will begin at 5:30pm and wrap up at 8pm.  OH, and did we mention there will be jazz to class this act up?  Because, yeah, there will be jazz.

And if that's not enough, help us add on to our over $5K tally of funds raised thus far.  We want to set an excellent tone for 2012 and need your help to do so!

So Successful with Camp Sojourner!

Not only do we get to report that we raised $510 last night at Blue Bear Tavern with Camp Sojourner but we also exceeded our 2011 goal by raising over $5K for the year!!!!  We loved seeing so many new faces and spending the evening in such a fun new bar (and even learning a new camp song...haha).

In the spirit of the holidays we want to thank not only those who attended last night for their generous support but everyone who has been a part of events along the way.  It's been very fun and so rewarding to see this little idea of "Drink Up, Give Back" take root over the past 8 months!

We'll be back soon with details about January's event scheduled for Tuesday, January 3rd (make us your first social engagement of 2012!)

December Event - Blue Bear Tavern with Camp Sojourner

During the holidays you'll certainly eat and drink way too much (which we endorse...really, we do!)  But will you give too much?  Come join us as we collectively finish off that 2011 Resolution List and get some major giving under our belts.

Help us spread some cheer and close out the year (bam! rhymes!) by attending December’s Socially Conscious Philadelphia (SCP) Happy Hour benefiting Camp Sojourner!

The formula is simple; pay $10 and get one free drink and some delish appetizers courtesy of Blue Bear Tavern (we got a sneak peek of the menu...it's gonna be AH-mazing).  The full $10 goes directly to Camp Sojourner and helps support the many programs that help Philadelphia’s girls develop lifelong leadership skills.  A mere $10 allows them to buy supplies, support scholarships for summer camp and covering admission to local attractions.

Need yet another reason to attend?  SCP is only $435 away from raising $5000 overall for local Philadelphia charities.  You can help us reach our 2011 goal by just showing up!

So…grab yourself, grab a friend, grab $10 and join us as we “Drink Up, Give Back!”

A big THANKS to our Veterans and City Tap House...

Thanks to those who made the trek to University City for happy hour last night!  We are happy to report we were able to raise $305 for the Philadelphia Veterans Multi-Service & Education Center (PVMSEC)!  This will help them feed at least 90 Veterans in need (gotta love that number).  Thanks also to City Tap House for providing free drinks and some very tasty snacks (be sure to hit up the flat breads next time you're there).

Mark your calendars for the first Tuesday in December (6th) when we join in on the holiday festivities and raise our spirits (get it??) to Camp Sojourner.  We'll have more information on the location soon.

November Event - City Tap House with Philadelphia Veterans Multi-Service & Education Center

After a month filled with goblins and ghouls, you can look forward to one event that doesn't require a costume to attend!  Join us on Tuesday, November 1st for our next happy hour.  We'll be testing out the SCP waters in University City and gathering at City Tap House.  They are generously donating a free drink (including their $3 drafts list, house wine and their Infusion cocktails) plus appetizers for our crowd.  The proceeds will support our city's Veterans through the Philadelphia Veteran's Multi-Service & Education Center (PVMSEC).  As usual, the suggested donation is $10.  And do you know what the PVMSEC can do with $10?  A lot!  $10 can provide 10 meals for Veterans or three comfort bags for formerly homeless Veterans to welcome them to their new apartments.  So join us in November to both recognize and support our Veterans! The fun runs from 5:30-8pm.

As a side note, we are a mere $740 from hitting the $5000 mark for total dollars raised since we started SCP.  Thanks to those of you who have helped along the way (and to those of you who will participate in the future)!  Drinking really does add up!

Fantastic showing for Women Against Abuse!

Sorry to be slow with this post-event update (A week?  Egads! I blame the post-Phillies phunk.)  We're excited to share that we raised a whopping $750 for Women Against Abuse at The Perch Pub.  A big thank you to Perch Pub for their awesome beer selection and delicious food (yum-o!).  Of course the biggest thank you goes to all of you who came out and to our lovely host for October, Kim Graham!  As usual we loved seeing new faces and hope to see them again at a future event.

In November we'll be supporting our Veteran's at City Tap House (University City).  Be on the lookout for more details!

October Event - Perch Pub with Women Against Abuse

October's Happy Hour (Oct. 4) is just around the corner. In one week we'll be gathering at Perch Pub with proceeds to benefit Women Against Abuse. Whether the cause is near to your heart, the weather has you itching to get out and spend some quality time with your friends (and making more) or you just want a great spot to pre-game for the Phillie's Play-Off (100 wins, baby!), we want to see you! Perch Pub will be providing a free drink and appetizers for your $10, going directly to Women Against Abuse.

We also want to send some special SCP love to Kim Graham who has been a constant supporter at our events and this month will play the roll of hostess. So if you know Kim, do her a favor and come, and if you don't know Kim...you better come and meet her! We look forward to seeing you starting at 5:30pm.

Rain, Rain didn't get in C2C's Way!

Well, that was a dark and stormy night!  And while turnout wasn't quite as strong as usual, the giving spirit was in full effect.  A big thanks to everyone who braved the wet weather to support Cradles to Crayons and to The Dark Horse for serving up some seriously delicious apps and drinks last night.  You helped us raise the bar once again with a whopping....drum roll please...$800!  That's right, fewer people and more money.  Of course, a lot of that has to do with the generous support of Guaranteed Abstract Corporation who was our sponsor for the night.  So yay for C2C, yay for Dark Horse, yay for Guaranteed Abstract and yay to YOU!

We hope to see everyone at the next event on Tuesday, October 4th (which we promise will have better weather...because how could it be worse?!).  More details will follow.

September Event - The Dark Horse Pub with Cradles to Crayons

In July you celebrated your post-Independence with us.  In September, we want to celebrate your...post-Labor?  Our next event is on Tuesday, September 6th (the day after Labor Day) and we want to see you there!  Why not add one final party to your three day weekend?  Not only will you get to unwind from that one tough day at the office, but you'll also be supporting the amazing efforts of Cradles to Crayons.   You'll also be supporting a city favorite, The Dark Horse Pub (heck yeah, we are shifting the party away from Center City this time).  The fine folks there are offering one free drink and a bevvy of snacks to all those in attendance.  All for the low, low suggested donation of $10!  Festivities kick of at 5:30pm and run until 8pm (officially...we know some of you like to hang for longer!)

Finally, we want to give a big shout out to Guaranteed Abstract who will be our corporate partner for this event.  They will help us further maximize our social efforts!

And as always, don't forget to invite your friends and connect with us on  Facebook and the newly created Twitter account (#drinkupgiveback).  Any questions, inquiries about involvement and suggestions can be sent to scphila@gmail.com.

Holy Do-Gooding with the Drueding Center!

What a phenomenal turn out for our August event!  We were super excited to see a bunch of new faces, as well the familiar ones, at Jose Pistolas.  The drinks were flowing, the chips were crunching and the dollars were adding up.  Thanks to your participation we raised a record high $645 for the Drueding Center!

Thanks to Jose Pistolas (and bartender Jose) and the awesome volunteers from The Drueding Center for a really great event!  See everyone in September.

Save the Date for September

In August you rose to the challenge and helped us raise our largest amount for one night thus far.  In an effort to keep up the momentum and rise above any post Labor Day laziness, we want to make sure you have September's event firmly marked on your calendars!

We'll be circling the wagons at the Dark Horse (yeah, that's right...we're attempting a non-Center City location) to benefit Cradles to Crayons, just in time for the start of a new school year, on Tuesday, September 6th.  See you there!

Tuesday, July 12, 2011

August Event - Jose Pistolas with The Drueding Center

Join us on Tuesday, August 2nd!  This time we'll be circling the wagons at Jose Pistola's (upstairs bar) where our beer chuggin' and cocktail sippin' will be in support of The Drueding Center.  We're back to our usual format this month, so your $10 donation (taken directly by charity reps) will get you one free drink (select drafts, wine and well cocktails) and free appetizers (lots o' Chips and Guac) courtesy of our amigos at Jose Pistola's!

Be sure to save the date for September 6th when we drum up cash for Cradles to Crayons.

Want to be added to our email list?  Drop a note to scphila@gmail.com.

We Hit it Outta The Park with Save 2nd Base!

Thanks so much to everyone who came out to support Save 2nd Base at Drinker's Pub last night.  Thanks to your efforts, we raised $550 that will go directly toward the fight against breast cancer (or as their t-shirts say, taking care of your rack!)  Thank you also to the strong showing by the UPenn Save 2nd Base Softball team!  Finally, hats off to Drinker's for their generosity.

See you on August 2nd at Jose Pistolas!

Save the Date for August

July Event - Drinker's Pub with Save 2nd Base

We know you are busy planning your 4th of July weekend so we wanted to be on your radars early!  Get ready to extend the holiday with SCP's Tuesday, July 5th Happy Hour at Drinker's Pub (Center City) benefiting Save 2nd Base. Save 2nd Base uses humor to build breast cancer awareness the same way we use drinks to benefit all of these amazing bars and charities...so it's a perfect fit!

This month's happy hour will be a little different as your $10 donation will give you access to $2 domestic drafts and $4 well drinks along with some free appetizers courtesy of Drinker's Pub.  The drink special runs from 5:30-7:30pm, but we'd love you to stick around until 8pm when we officially pack it in.

Also, a special thanks to our hosts for this event....The Save 2nd Base Softball Team at the University of Pennsylvania.  We look forward to seeing the team and all the friends they recruit at happy hour!

May Event - Tavern on Broad with Philabundance!

Put our second event on your radar and more importantly, firmly in your calendar!  We'll be gathering at Tavern on Broad (on Broad between Walnut and Locust) and proceeds will benefit Philabundance*.  Like last time, the donation is $10 and goes straight to the charity.  TOB is providing one free drink, half price drinks and half price appetizers through 8pm for each attendee.  Each $10 donation will provide 20 meals to those in need across the Delaware Valley!

And guess what else - we will be raffling off three tickets to see the Phillies/Dodgers game at Citizen's Bank Park on June 7th!  Raffle tickets will be an additional $10 donation - or $40 for 5 raffle tickets.  Tickets are in Section 421 - right over home plate!!

And because we know you'll have a great time, you'll want to Save the Date (unless you win those Phillies tickets) for Tuesday, June 7th's event benefiting Project H.O.M.E..

Want To Get More Involved?

We want to highlight a few opportunities to increase your involvement with SCP (though sippin' on a cocktail is a most welcomed method of involvement!) should you be interested.

SCP is always looking for people to add to our PR Team.  We are most in need of individuals with Website smarts and PR connections.  If you like the concept of the organization and are looking for a more long term and higher level of involvement, we'd love to hear from you.

If you like the idea of a higher level of involvement but don't consider yourself to be an expert in either of the areas above or don't have the time to commit to a year of events, please consider acting as a HOST for an upcoming event.  Impress your friends and co-workers with this "elite status" and do some good at the same time!  We challenge each event host to bring a minimum of 10 friends and challenge those friends to bring one friend each (netting 20 attendees...instant party!)  We'll make it as easy as we can for you by providing you with some "invite emails" and even mention you on our website (la di dah!)

To get more involved just drop a line to scphila@gmail.com and let us know how you'd like to help!

CHARITIES

If you are interested in being considered as a beneficiary for an upcoming SCP event, please drop us a line at scphila@gmail.com.  Please provide us with some basic information about what your organization does.

*Note - SCP has a full slate of charities for 2012!  We will continue to take requests and hold them for 2013.
While we appreciate all charitable causes have value, we want to remind folks SCP focuses on charities local to Philadelphia.

Testimonials from some of our charities:
Back on My Feet (May 2012)
Thank you again for all of your efforts on behalf of Back on My Feet | Philadelphia!  We had such a great time and have had great feedback from those who attended.  Working with you both was an absolute pleasure and I’d welcome the opportunity to do so again.  When we first discussed this endeavor last fall, I never anticipated that we’d raise as much money as we did ($1250!!) in a matter of two hours time AND that it would require so little staff time and effort.  What a huge success!!

Cradles to Crayons (September 2011)
Thank you so much to Socially Conscious Philadelphia for including us in their September Happy Hour! Kristin made the whole process so simple and non-time consuming, which for a non-profit is invaluable. The $750 that we were able to raise at the Happy Hour will help provide everyday essentials (clothes, shoes, books, toys, and school supplies) to 30 low-income or homeless children in Greater Philadelphia to help get them ready for school this fall. We are very grateful to have been included in Socially Conscious Philadelphia’s event…”

Philabundance (May 2011)
"Philabundance was thrilled to be a beneficiary of a Socially Conscious Philly happy hour event. The concept of the event was simple, the happy hour generated awareness of Philabundance’s mission to a new audience and it brought together a group of people who want to help their communities."

The Career Wardrobe (April 2011)
“Socially Conscious Philadelphia was a great way for our organization to raise fast cash, have a great time and network with new supporters. And our organization didn’t have to do a thing besides show up!”

GET INVOLVED

We want you to get involved with SCP!  Here are some great opportunities.

Attend Events
The easiest way to get involved is to show up!  It doesn't get much better than sippin' on a cocktail for a good cause.

Spread the Word
People are more likely to attend if they know someone who is coming, simple as that.  So, help us grow a real "social network" and bring your friends to events.  Join our mailing list, check the website and follow us on Facebook to stay up to date!

Become a Host
Are you passionate about a particular charity?  Do you love a local venue?  Are you already spreading the word to friends about SCP?  Consider being a Host.  Hosts are folks we ask to rise to the challenge of bringing at least 10 people out to an event. (You can also team up with some friends and Host as a group!)  We then ask you to ask those 10 people to each bring a friend.  If we're lucky that's 20 extra attendees (and $200!) based on your awesome work. We'll even give you a mention on the website and our Facebook page to make you super legit.

Join the Leadership Team
We'd like to add a couple more people to the Leadership Team.  While its super rewarding work, it can be a bit time consuming to establish a major organization in Philadelphia...phew!  We know we can do an even better job for our partner charities, venues and participants if we have a little more manpower behind us.  We are most in need of people with a love of web design and PR connections but are happy to talk more with anyone who has the passion to do more at this level.  The commitment is higher but so is the street cred!

For more information about any of these opportunities email scphila@gmail.com
